Microsoft drops free services for custom domains

April 11, 2014 by Alex

In December 26th of 2012 we lost free registrations with Google Apps, today, the 11th of April in 2014 we lose yet another service: Outlook.com for domains.

For new customers Microsoft has the following message:

Outlook.com no longer offers support for new custom domain sign ups. New customers looking to manage custom domains are encouraged to use Office 365, Microsoft’s premium online service, which also includes enterprise-class mail, collaboration and communication tools.

Existing customers will be moved to Office 365 and given a free three months subscription before being forced to upgrade or move.

Keep in mind: Zoho.com continues to offer free email service for custom domains with five users. If you sign up using a referral you get five extra users. If you would like such a referral, contact me via the contact form.
